First Baptist Church.

This church was erected on land purchased from the-late Mrs. P. A. Dear. The church was organized in October, 1874, with eight members, and first held services in , what is known to all of our people as the "Old Church,” which was afterwards sold to the colored Odd Fellows and used as a Hall and also as a school room until the new colored school house was built. The first pastor was Rev.. George W. Homer, who served . the church for a number of years.

The contractor who built this church was the late Hexekiah Viet*.
