Church Work-Fest
In preparation for the August Centennial Homecoming which will celebrate the founding of the Slate Mills Baptist Church early in 1855, several ladies from the Adult Class, and a group from the’ Men’s Bible Class, under the leadership of the teacher, George Thornhill, have been working until late hours many a night. All the pews were removed from the building and later reassembled. Among those who guided the sanding machine or wielded a brush to retinish the. floors arid pews were Mr. Thornhill, Lee Payne, Audie Weaver anfl his three sons, J. T. Weakley, Waver Kennedy, Lee Hitt. Robert Boyd, Olney and Bobby Kennedy.
New carpets for the aisles are now being provided.
