Winter Schedule
For State Highways
Approximately 175 road projects in Virginia. were put on a winter schedule November 1 and will remain under restrictions until next April, when the construction season is resumed, the State Highway Department said , recently.
Preparations for winter include putting roads in suitable condition for travel, leaving the old road undisturbed, wherever possible, until work can be resumed next spring.
Where work can be Continued without seriously interfering with travel, construction will be continued as the weather permits. Some of the largest projects that will move ahead during the winter are the $58,500,000 Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel System, the $15,500,000 bridge over the Rappahahnock River between Grey’s Point and White Stone, a million dollar railroad grade separation structure in Roanoke, a $1,600,000 railroad underpass
