stitution in the first ten amendments.

I These amendments have j stood unaltered ever since as a protection against possible encroachment of the individual's liberties by an over zealous government. They demonstrate the wisdom of the early statesmen of Virginia, and particularly of George Mason, whose long fight to have the ideas contained in the Virginia Bill of Rights incorporated into the Federal Constitution was , finally successful. It was on December 15, 1781 that these ,• amendments became effective.

A re-reading of the Bill : of Rights brings a realization of our debt to those founders of our country^nd especially a desire to honor with deserved recognition the author of the Virginia Declaration of Rights from which those great ten amendments to our Constitution sprang, • George Mason.
