A sudden wind, rain and electrical storm swept through Sperryville Friday evening, July 28, leaving heavy damage in its wake. Two walls of the new Sperry-! ville Fire Company’s build- j ing, now under construction, tumbled over in the face of high winds which swept down from the mountains. About 2,000 cinder blocks toppled, taking windows and frames with them. The structure would have been ready to go under roof Monday morning. The building apparently received full impact of the winds which traveled in a streak. Mrs. Roy Atkins said it hailed in that area, and winds felled apple trees in the nearby orchard of Maurice G. Herndon which Mr .Atkins tends^ She said the gusts were "so forceful she feared her house would be damaged. Other residents said many trees were bent over almost to the ground. Lighting struck twelve

Opetas Next Week
Firemen and ladies of Castleton are hard at work preparing for their sixth annual carnival which will open Wednesday, July 10 and continue through Saturday, July 13. There will be the usual games, rides and prizes found at all such events, plus good country food, coffee and drinks served each night at the food stand. A box supper will be featured Friday night. The carnival queen will also be crowned Friday night. Door prizes are given away each night and on Saturday ten prizes will be awarded, the first a motor scooter.
