The marriage of Mies Sharon Lynne Mahanes, daughter of

The marriage of Mies Sharon Lynne Mahanes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Harold Mahanes of Achsah, to Joseph Gordon Payne, son of Mrs. Hiram Gordon Payne; Jr. of Madison and the late Mr. Payne, took place at 4:00 p.m. June 22, 1963, in Walkers Methodist Church, Radiant. The Rev. Floyd J. Wingfield, Jr. officiated. Mrs, C. M. Thomas, Jr. of Woodberry Forest played the nuptial music. Miss Ann Johnson of Lexington, sang “I Love Thee”, “Because,” "Wedding Prayer”, and "The Lord’s Prayer.” Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a sheath gown of veiled silk with appliqued Alencon lace. Her,- feur-tiered rr yeil fell: ' from a crown of seed pearls, and she carried a cascade bouquet of marguerite daisies and ivy with an orchid. Miss Sharon Gibbs of Pratts was maid of honor. She wore a floor-length sheath gown of jade green chiffon and carried a crescent bouquet of white pompons and red sweetheart roses. Other attendants were Mrs. Paul Thomason of Roanoke and Mrs. Darrell Nygaard of Charlottesville. - Beth Smoak, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Smoak of Charlottesville, was flower-girl. Jeffery Reedy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Reedy of Hampstead, Maryland, was ringbearer. Lt. Eric Gordon Peters of Camp Lejune, North Carolina, served as best man. Ushers were Randolph B. Campbell of Lovingston, Robert Goodman of Charlottesville, Wayne Mahanes and Charles Michael Lohr of Madison. S

A reception was held at the President Madison Inn in Orange. Mrs. Mahanes wore to her daughter's wedding a pink street-length sheath of embroidered silk organza with matching accessories. Her corsage was of pink cymbidium orchids. The groom's mother wore a street-length dress of cerise chiffon with matching accessories. Her corsage was also of pink cymbidium orchids. Leaving on her honeymoon, the bride wore a dress of cranberry red silk with yellow accessories. Her corsage was the orchid from her bridal bouquet.
