In saysing this, Colonel Woodson asked the public not to look upon the statement as in any way being a threat. "No one who stays within the speed limits and who obeys traffic laws need fear arrest," he continued. “Many people die quite innocently in traffic and the personnel of all police organizations are on the road to protect you."

Colonel Woodson listed the most prevalent dangers of holiday periods as driving when drinking, hurrying, driving while exhausted and sleepy and failing to take into consideration the increased dangers of the period. In closing, he announced that Virginia is again participating in the national "Slow Down and Live" campaign which runs from Memorial DajT through Labor Day and which is directed against speeding and other dangerous actions arising from haste and impatience.
