Social Security

There are a number of persons in Rappahannock County who have become richer because they met Mrs. Elizabeth Page, field representative of the Social Security Administration who visits Washington on the second Wednesday of each month to assist persons with their social security problems. Mrs. Page is in an office in the County Court House. A number of Rappahannock County residents usually are there to inquire about their social security status and discuss their retirement plans. Mrs. Page said there were three times when persons should make inquiries about social security retirement benefits; when a man or woman reaches age 62, 65, or 72 even though still working. At age 62 it is possible to get social security benefits but you will have a reduction in your check of at least 20 percent. So, if your monthly benefit is $100 you will get $80 a month at age 62. If you start getting benefits at age 62, you will continue to get benefits at the reduced rate even after you reach 65. At age 65 you will be paid your full retirement benefit every month if you do not work for more than $1200 a year. If you work and earn more than $1200, you will lose only one dollar of your yearly benefits for every two dollars you earn between $1200 and $1700; and for earning over $1700 you will lose dne dollar in benefits for each dollar earned. Age 72 is a big day for you if you are still working, because you can get all your social security checks no matter how much you make.
