Thus the grass hay sample #2 above is worth $12.60 per ton more than sample #1 on a digestible protein basis. Yet most farmers would pay $30.00 per ton for sample No. 1 before they would pay $42.60 for the same kind of hay when actually one would be just as good a buy as the other. Farmers are not to blame..the reason is simply a case of not having forage analysis available in years past; no accurate figures to base a decision upon.
