George W. Payne, Sr.
George William Payne, Sr., 78, of Washington, Va. died Thursday October 10, 1963 at the Hill Crest Nursing Home in Charlottesville. Mr. Payne was a native of Rappahannock County, the son of John Payne and Molly Hackley Payne of Flint Hill. Surviving are his wife Mrs. Annie Fincham Payne of Washington; seven sons, Luther and George Payne, Jr. of Washington, Jack Payne of Gordonsville, James Payne of Strasburg, Warren Payne of Richmond, Fred Payne of Boston and Lee Payne of Woodville; four daughters, Miss Gladys Payne of Washington, Mrs. Leonard Mills, The Plains, Mrs. Aileen Jenkins of Orange and Mrs. Annie Jenkins of Front Royal; 30 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, A1 Payne of Flint Hill, Norman Payne of Huntly and Robert Payne of Washington, D. C.; four sisters, Mrs. Bessie Huff of Washington, Mrs. Ed Bouton of Washington, D. C., Mrs. Mary McCree of Maryland and Mrs. William Noakes of Washington, D. C. A funeral service was held Saturday, October 12 at 2 p.m. from the Washington Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Arnold Sorrells with interment in the Washington Cemetery.
Pallbearers were all grandsons of the deceased; William Payne, Reid Payne, Franklin Payne, J. E. Payne, Kenneth Payne, Wayne Payne, Rodney Jenkins and Larry Jenkins. Funeral arrangements were made by the Clore Funeral Home. "
