Come Saturday the 19th, I will have lived in Rappahannock County for 23 years. When I arrived here on that date in 1940 I received a very cool reception...the ground was covered with a thick layer of soggy, heavy snow. I was married on the 12th, a beautiful, warm clear day, just like the ones we are having at present, and bingo...a week later several inches of snow blanketed the countryside. However the warm hospitality for which Rappahannock is noted soon dispelled the gloom of the weather and raised the dropping temperatures. *
Warning to squirrel huntersthese bushy tailed little animals are very expensive to hunt. In fact, one squirrel can cost as much as $60. Two poachers were hunting here on posted land when they were caught by the game warden and their fines amounted to $60. They had gotten only one squirrel.
