HD Club Federation
Training Conference
The Virginia Federation of Home Demonstration clubs sponsored a leadership training conference at the Methodist Assembly Center in Black stone, Va., November 6 and 7. About 125 key women from 80 counties were present. Dr. Maynard Heckel of VP I led the first session, discussing Communication Skills, and demonstrated the use of buzz sessions and audience participation.
Training leader for the second session was Dr. Donald Fessler, Rural Sociologist of VP I, who spoke on Motivating Group Activity. The conference was divided into five groups who discussed ways of improving club work in the communities, with an evaluation panel who presented the findings of the group. This work shop and conference was an experiment by the Federation to help educate and train leaders in local clubs.| The districts will hold similar conferences early in the spring, so that many more women may learn the leadership techniques and teach still others. Mrs. F. L. Bowey of Amissvllle represented Rappahannock county at the conference and Mrs. W. A. Gentry, Flint Hill, state secretary of the Federation, attended the board meeting and conference.
