The Possum Wasn’t On The Ground The classic “raccoon up the 'simmon tree ‘possum on the ground" was not the case at all in the meat house of the residence of Mrs. Tom Smoot at the c o r ne r of G a y a nd Wheeler in Washington the other day. She found the o'possum in a three foot tin barrel with her prize country jham that had been given her [several days before. The mystery of the whole affair is how the animal got into the meat house and then how it got into the barrel. Mrs. Smoot had carefully checked the building before putting her ham there for safekeeping and afforded extra protection by storing the ham in the tin barrel. Much supposition has arisen as to the means of entry and the most logical explanation seems to be that the animal came in through the smoke hole and swung by his tail until he was directly over the barrel and dropped in. The happy outcome is that the ham was unharmed and that Herbert Smoot was on hand to dispose of the o'possum.
