A hit and run accident occurred November 1 at 10:50 p.m. on Route 211 four miles west of Sperryville, according to Trooper W. A. Buntin. A ’49 Dodge sedan driven by Billy Matney of Tazewell, Va. was struck by a 1955 Ford convertible owned by Jackie Davis Thomas of Warrenton and operated by his brother Donald Billy Thomas. The Thomas vehicle crossed into the third lane of the highway and sldeswiped the Matney car. Thomas failed to stop at the scene, but was apprehended later and charged with hit and run, reckless driving and operating a motor vehicle without an operator’s license, stated Mr. Buntin. There were no injuries and damage to each vehicle was estimated at $300. Jeanne and Lois Ann Smoot, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Clabert Smoot, Washington, Va. were slightly injured in an auto accident Sunday evening on Rte. 606, the Fodder Stack Road near Flint Hill, according to Trooper P.P. Dicks. They were passengers in a 1957 Mercury operated by James Williams of Chester Gap. The Williams vehicle topped a hill and swerved to avoid striking an unidentified car in the road. Williams skidded into the bank and turned over. He was not hurt. Jeanne was taken to Warren Memorial Hospital and remained overnight. Lois -Ann was treated at the same hospital and released.
