Annual Appeal for Aid For Crippled Children
The Crippled Children’s Hospital in Richmond appeals to the public in a letter which we quote herewith.
For nearly three hundred and fifty years the America^ people have been a blessed nation. As we again approach our season of gratitude and thanks giving, it is well to pause and think of all our bounty and at the same time to remember those within our midst whose burden has been heavier than ours and thus are in need of their fellow citizens. Thanksgiving Season is the only time of year the Crippled Children’s Hospital makes a general appeal for funds. This Hospital is a Virginia Hospital open to patients from all over the State. It is dependent upon contributions from friends throughout the State in order to keep its doors open. All services of the hospital are FREE to needy crippled children from Virginia. Available to all patients is orthopedic and plastic surgery, complete dental care, opthalmic and medical treatment and physical, speech and occupational therapy. From September 1962 to September 1963* children from 81 counties and 24 cities in Virginia spent a total of 30, 808 bed days at Crippled Children’s Hospital at a cost of $432,852.00, exclusive of any doctors' fees, since all physicians and surgeons give their services without charge. This month the Hospital is faced with the need to raise $145,000.00 to meet operating expenses. Donation Day is November 26. Crippled Children’s Hospital is not connected in any way with the Society for Crippled Children and Adults and does not benefit from the sale of Easter Seals.
