minor Accidents

Two accidents occurred in Rappahannock Sunday and a third one was reported Monday morning. At 2:15 a.m. Sunday, May 10th James Benjamin Franklin of Culpeper lost control of his 58 Chevrolet sedan on a curves plunged down a bank and struck a telephone pole. The accident happened on Route 211 four miles east of Washington. Franklin received lacerations of face and right arm. He was charged with reckless driving, according to Trooper W. A. Buntin. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $500. On Route 211a mile east of Amissville at 11:15 p.m. Sunday evening two cars, both owned and operated by residents of Brightwood collided. Mary Lee Woodard driving a 1956 Ford sedan was making a left turn onto Route 613 when she was struck in the rear by Alvin James Hailey in a *60 Pontiac. According to Trooper Buntin Herbert Lee Hoffman, also of Brightwood, a passenger in the Hailey vehicle, sustained lacerations of the face. Damage to the cars was estimated at $700 or $800. Hailey was charged with reckless driving. A Rappahannock County school bus was involved in a slight accident Monday morning at 8:15 on the resettlement road near Flint Hill. James Floyd Lilly, driving the bus, side swiped a half ton Chevrolet pick-up belonging to Nelson Atkins, which was parked on the west side of that road. There were no injuries and damage was estimated at $125 to the truck and $15 to the bus, according to Trooper P. p. Dicks.
