Lambs
Lamb prices should continue above prices for comparable times last year. We are approaching a seasonal peak fh prices, however, which usual ly occurs in late May but some times drifts over into June. In view of this it will be advisable to finish your lambs out to best weight as soon as possible. For most desirable carcasses hold lightweight lambs until they reach at least 85 pounds. On up to 100 pounds is considered best weight range. March slaughter nationally ran 12-15 per cent above a year earlier. Within the last few weeks lamb slaughter has been about what it was a year ago, but this is temporary as the lamb crop will be 5-6 per cent below last year. Plentiful supplies of beef and broilers may be a limiting factor on further gains in lamb prices. Lamb prices in Virginia last week ranged from $27.00$29.00 for prime, $27.00$28.25 for choice, and $24.75 $26.00 for good.
