District 4-H Contests

On Saturday, May 16, the people of Front Royal and surrounding counties are invited to spend a day at the Beef ^Cattle Research Station, Front Royal. Starting at 9:30, young people of 18 Northern Virginia counties will compete for District honors with their 4-H Club demonstrations. They will demonstrate, projects in seven categories which will include automotive safety care^ livestock conservation, public speaking and others. In the afternoon, several interesting discussions will be held. These will include beef cattle research, soil conservation practices, and methods of farm financing and will be conducted by local personnel of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and the U. S. Department of Agriculture. Cattle from several experimental lines of the research station herd will be on display. There will also be exhibits from the Soil Conservation Service and the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. A brief explanation of the cattle research program in progress at the station will be made and a tour of cattle handling facilities will be offered to those interested. A quarterhorse working demonstration will also be given. This field day is sponsored by the Agricultural Committee of the Front Royal Chamber of Commerce.
