Q. Will there be a wheat program for the 1964 crop? A. Yes. Congress recently passed legislation authorizing a wheat program for the 1964 and 1965 crop years. Q. I raise wheat on my farm. Must I take part in this program?
A. No. The new program Is completely voluntary. No producer is required to take part. Q. Who is eligible to take part in the 1964 program? A. The program is open to every wheat grower, regardless of the number of acres he produces, if he has a 1964 wheat allotment. This allotment is the acreage you're eligible to harvest this year if you decide to take part in the program. You don't need to make any further acreage cuts unless you want to. Q. I’ve mislaid my allotment notice. How can I find out what my allotment is?’ A. Call or visit your ASCS County Office — they’ll be happy to provide the Inform a tion you need. Q. How do I take part in the program? A. You will need to file an application at your County ASCS Office not later than May 15. Since the program is voluntary, you won’t be automatic rally *qrollpd..;Signing.an application is the first step 'to participate. f Q. What do I gain by signing up in the wheat program this year? A. By signing up by May 15, you become eligible for:
1. Price-support at $1.46 county base rate on all the wheat you produce on an eligible farm. In Virginia, the loan rate will vary from $1.44 to $1.47 a bushel. (Producers who don’t participate but comply with the 1964 wheat allotment may get price-support along.)
2. You’ll receive “domestic’’ certificate payments valued at 70 cents a bushel foY 45 per cent of your allotment’s normal production. You will receive - “export* certificate payments valued at 25 cents a bushel for an additional 45 per cent of the normal production. In no case may the certificate payments exceed the normal production of the acres planted for harvest. The certificates will be based on your normal wheat production.
3. Diversion payments for having set aside in conserving use an acreage not less than 11.11 per cent of your allotment. At the same time, the 1964 allotment, of which you were notified about a year ago, may be fully planted. The diversion payment will be .29 cents per bushel in Rappahannock County times your; normal yield. You can also set aside in conserving use an additional 20 per cent of your allotment, or up to a total of i 15 acres if this is larger;1 but this additional diversion will need to be accompanied by a corresponding reduction from the allotment in actual wheat acres planted for harvest.
