ler of Charlottesville, third went to a Madison Beagle “Spot” belonging to E. L. Yowell while 4th place winner was “Billy the Kid” owned by E. M. Yancey of Culpeper. A total of 41 Beagles participated in the trials held on the Ernest Yowell farm. Judges were R. A. Goodling of North Garden and Basil Hurst of Charlottesville. Other Rappahannockans who have entered beagles in this sporting event in recent years include George Whorton and James Bennett. Mr. Whorton’s 13” Beagle, “Jill” was grand champion in 1962. The Madison Wildlife Association will also sponsor a Bird Dog Field Trials on Saturday, November 14. The entry fee is $3.00 per dog while trophies consist of silver bowls. Classes consist of: Madison County Champion, Open Champion and Grand; Champion. Drawings will be held Friday night, November 13 in the War Memorial Bldg. If you can’t be present, send your entries, breed, name and address to Woodrow White or Smith Blankenbaker, Madison. The Drag Race and Horn Blowing contest, which has always attracted Rappahannock sportsmen, will be held Thanksgiving, November 26 at the Kelso Farm near Novum, The Annual Membership Banquet at which awards are presented will be held January 8, 1965 at Madison County High School.
