Hunting Forecast
A kill of over 30,000 deer for the fifth straight year in Virginia is forecast for Old Dominion hunters this fall. Based on kills in previous years coupled with deer popu lation trends, Game Commission biologist are expecting a kill of 12 to 14 thousand West of the Blue Ridge and a take of around 20,000 in the Eastern portion of the state. This means that the kill will increase substantially in the West with the longer season this year, while in the East where this year’s regulations are more restrictive, the kill will decline somewhat from “he record harvests of the past few years.
