Seat belts are the most effective single item of protective equipment available to the motorist, according to the American Insurance Association.
The Engineering and Safety Department of the American Insurance Association points out that if everyone used seat belts, more than 5,000 lives would be saved each year and injuries would be reduced by one-third. * Seat belts should be used at all times, even on the shortest trips, since most fatal accidents occur at speeds under 40 miles per hour and within 25 miles of home, the American Insurance Association said.
