Mr. Robert Kirby, State Coordinator for the Office of Economic Opportunity, addressed a gathering of approximately twenty citizens on Wednesday, May 5th, at the Rappahannock County Court House. His purpose was to explain the Economic Opportunity Act passed by Congress in 1964. Mr. Kirby began by saying that the Economic Opportunity Act provided Federal aid for work training, and education programs to uplift poor people so that they will no longer be dependent upon the public for support. The emphasis is on the development of human resources. He made it clear that this is not a public assistance program.

Today at Washington Elementary
The Washington Elementary School will present a program entitled 'Let Freedom Ring” today at 9;30 a.m. and the public in cordially invited to attend. Children who have had dental corrections during the current school year will participate in the program which stresses educational content.
