Natl. Holstein Boy

J. Dwight Peck, an 18-yearold Virginia Tech freshman from Herndon, has been named the, National Champion Holstein Boy by the Holstein Friesian Association of America. He was selected from 35 entries in the boys’ division of the 23rd annual contest. He will attend the national Holstein convention in Seattle, Wash., June 3 to receive a bronze plaque and $50 cash award. In 1962, Peck was a finalist in the contest. Majoring in dairy science, he is the son of Mr, and Mrs. John D. Peck, owner-operators of a 153-acre dairy farm in Fairfax County. Peck has completed eight years of 4-H dairy project work and owns 34 head of registered Holsteins, 19 of which are of producing age. He estimates the value of his cattle at $13,000. The VPI student recently won both the grand and freshman championships in the dairy show sponsored by the Virginia Tech Chapter of the American Dairy Association. Dwight is a nephew of Mrs. Sarah Latham of Amissville.
