Social Security Notes
The second of three milestones in the social security program during 1965 was reached on May 5 when Mr. William Kappel, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, received his first social security check from President Johnson in a special ceremony at the White House. When Mr. Kappel’s benefit claim was approved, the social security benefit rolls hit the 20 million mark. Mrs. Hazel F. Daly, Winchester, Va. social security district manager, reported that the first milestone — 25 yei^rs of social security benefinpayments — was reached at, the end of January this yeat' when social security checks were mailed out for the 300th month. More than 1,900 of the charter social security beneficiaries, those whose entitlement dates back to January 1940, are still receiving their monthly social security checks. The third milestone, said Mrs. Daly, will occur on August 14, when social security offices across the country will celebrate the 30th anniversary of ^he signing of the original /Social Security Act in 1935.
