I have observed for the last few years and particularly in the past few months that the Rappahannock News has been stirring with new vitality and purpose. I commend you and the publisher for the openmindedness with which you have allowed the paper to become a sounding board for opinions on both sides of controversial local political issues and I believe that greater participation of citizens has been stimulated. This is healthy and good. In these times when the issues before us should receive our gravest, most-studied con sideration and every citizen owes it to himself and his County to speak out boldly for his convictions there should be little excuse for indifference and lethargy. I am inclosing some verses that express this belief of mine. In my opinion, the 'real" news in the Rappahannock News has grown to include all geographical areas and better mirrors the total life of our citizens. The pictures have been excellent. One thing more I would like to see in the News is the inclusion, when space permits, of some of the literary products of our own local writers. I believe we have many who write either professionally or for personal satisfaction who might be willing to contribute short pieces now and then and I believe your readers would be interested in reading literary features. If you should ever want to use any of the inclosed to encourage others to contribute or as “fillers" you have my permission, (with the apologies of an amatfeW)f. •• ' • *•" .
