Historic Committee
At an organizational meeting Thursday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Williams, chairmen were named and work projects were outlined for two more of the twelve working Committees of the Rappahannock County Historical Society. Arthur Miller was chosen for the Travel and Communi-. cations Committee which will study, locate, and identify old trails, toll roads, turn pikes, tobacco roads and trace the development of communications in our area. He will be assisted by two vice chairmen, I. L. Parrish and J. R-; Johnson. Othfer members of this committee are Mrs. Mary C. Parrish, Mrs. Byrd Jones, and Bill Snead. Mrs. Parrish is doing some research on the use of boats for transportation on the Rappahannock, and Mr. Johnson is locating all the Caps across the Blue Ridge used in early days. Field trips will be scheduled later. Judge Rayner Snead was appointed Chairman of Religion and Education, which will hunt up all information available about churches and schools in the area. Members of this committee are the Rev. Arnold L. Sorrells, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Rees, Mrs. John Williams, Mrs. Stella D. Johnson, B. V. Snead, and Mrs. Miriam Harris. Study projects will be announced soon. All who are interested in working with either of these committees will be welcomed to join. Notify the Chairman or the Society President, E. M. Jones, Washington, Virginia, if interested.
