How much you have to spend on home furnishings doesn’t determine the happiness you’ll derive from them. Many people with little imagination, can get much more from what they have. Instead of buying an expensive antique or reproduction as a side table in the living room, trying painting or refinishing that old trunk or chest in the attic; maybe an old stone jar, filled with evergreens Or leaves, will do just as well as a bronze sculpture as a living room accessory; perhaps one of Aunt Sarah’s cast-offs, refinished or painted, can serve as a coffee table just as well as one of fine wood, hand rubbed, from an exclusive furniture store. Good fabrics are expensive but denims and inexpensive cottons can do a decorating job for you, too. And, if you don’t have money to purchase fabrics for curtains ordraper ies, try fitting some discarded shutters into you windows, or decorating them with hanging plants or window shelves.
