wiin tnese aetans in mina we started off for the day on Valentine's morning going west toward the mountains. As we drove along I suggested we - stop at the next little town and ask if there was a real estate man in town. The next towr proved to be Washington, Virginia.
A real estate agent informed us he had nothing modern for sale but had a very old piece of property that filled our requirements.
He said it would take a good deal of imagination to see its possibilities as it was an old schoolhouse, 150 years old and , for the past number of years had been used as a dwelling without any modern conveniences. At this particular time there was a ground cover of about 6 inches of snow which made the distant mountains so beautiful. As we got to the property we found it was the very corner of the town and was two of the original lots surveyed by George Washington in 1749 to which he had given his name; the first of the now 28 in the United States. The old schoolhouse was , .built of homemade bricks, 3 W deep so the walls are 21 inches thick. A little porch across the town side with two doors and two windows with old glass and four windows on the other side, a fireplace at each end of the one big room; now divided into several rooms, fire places sealed up and stoves used - one end for living and the other- for sleeping, made up the original house.
