Soc. Security Notes
On March 15 President John son signed a new amendment to the Social Security Law. This provides that persons now age 72 or who will be 72 before 1968 and who have no coverage under social security may receive a $35 per month pension administered through the social security system. The money to pay these some 370,000 people will come from the General Treasury of the United States, not from Social Security Trust Funds. For people reaching age 72 in 1968 or later at least 3 quarters of coverage will be necessary." The number of quarters will increase by 3 each year. This new type of pension will be first paid for the month of October. All those eligible who have filed for hospitalization insurance will also be considered to have filed for this pension. Any additional information needed by social security will be solicited from the individual involved. He need not contact the Social Security Administration to file a new claim. There are certain reductions provided in the law for people receiving other types of federal or state aid. The Social Security Office in Winchester will be glad to answer any questions regarding Social Security. The address is 20 South Cameron Street.
