For First Six Months
Richmond . - Virginia ended the first six months of 1966 with 479 traffic deaths reported, as compared with 484 for the same period of 1965, Colonel C. W. Woodson, Jr., Superintendent of State Police and Chairman of the Governor's Highway Safety Committee, announced today. Although Colonel Woodson pointed out that the reduction of five deaths was certain to be curtailed or wiped out by late reports and the deaths of persons now carried as injured, but whose deaths revert to the dates of injury for statistical purposes, he noted that traffic volumes for 1966 are up about five percent over those of 1965.
