Tetaniis Isn't one of the imllj portant killers in the United States—but it is important to those who contract it, and to those who experience the dis comfort that often attends the emergency treatment -used to yprevent it. Risk of tetanus increases with warm weather and outdoor activities; it decreases in any weather with toxoid immunization. Tetanus spores can be found in soil throughout most of the United States. They can be picked up by plants or animals. A splinter,, a bite, a cut or a thorn scratch can introduce the spores into the body of a victim. The re, they grow into mi croscopic bacteria, which be gin multiplying, in the process releasing a deadly poison which attacks nerve centers. Convulsions and muscle spasms follow.
