Senator Harry F. Byrd, Jr. outdistanced his opponent Armistead L. Boothe by a large margin in Rappahannock County in the Democratic primary Tuesday. Voting here was 811 for Byrd; 234 for Boothe. Byrd carried the state to fill the seat held many years by his father.
Though Rappahannock supported Senator A. Willis Robertson by about the same margin as Byrd, he was defeated statewide by William B. Spong, Jr. Voting in Rappahannock for this seat was 816 for Robertson and 207 for Spong.
