Mishaps Light
Though traffic crashes and fatalities over the nation soared during the holiday weekend, only minor mishaps occurred in Rappahannock. Two singlevehicle crashes were reported by Trooper J. B. Willis. At 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning four miles west of Sperryville on Route 211a 1967 taxi cab owned and operated by Michael Douglas Thompson of Washington, D. C. overturned. Thompson rounded a curve to the left, lost control of the car and overturned down a bank on the right of the highway according to Trooper Willis. Injured in the crash were his wife, Hazel Blunt Thompson who had bruises of the right side; Eric Wright Thompson, 2, lacerated left eye; Mark Wright Thompson, 1, lacerations of the nose. They were taken to Culpeper Memorial Hospital by Rappahannock Rescue Squad. Thompson was charged with reckless driving. Shortly after noon on the same day less than a mile east of Amissville on Route 211a 61 Chrysler ran off the right of the road and struck a rock. The vehicle was registered tw Alonzo A. Lands down of Haymarket. However, the occupant or occupants of the vehicle were not at the scene of the crash when it was investigated. Trooper Willis is continuing an investigation.
