Traffic Deaths Seen
Richmond, Va.With 525 Virginia traffic deaths for the first half of 1967 comparing badly with the 483 for the same; period of 1966, Colonel C. W. Woodson, jr., Chairman of the Governor’s Highway Safety Committee and Superintendent
of State Police, today prej dieted not only the seventh \ consecutive year in whicb such deaths have increasedj but the highest annual toll ever recorded. “Only a miracle," he said, “can save us from another annua1 increase and it Seems certain that the all time high record of 1,110 deaths in 1941 will be topped." Here, he noted that the first six months of 1941 saw 463 deaths. Traffic volumes for the period were up approximately 7.5 percent and deaths of pedestrians rose from 67 during the first half of 1966 to 93 this year. For the first
