The Chairman stressed the importance of electing representative farm ers as com mitteemen in view of their broad program responsibilities. Pro grams administered by the committeemen include the Agricultural Conservation Program, the Cropland Adjustment Program, acreage allotments, marketing quotas, commodity loans, the feed grain program, the voluntary wheat program, diversion pro gram, the National Wool program, and farm storage facility loans. Other duties are assigned to the com mittees bj the Secretary of Agriculture as the need arises. Last year, 290 farmers 53 per cent of all the farmers in the county - took part in one of more programs administered by the ASC committees. Funds disbursed under the committees’ supervision amounted to $94,671. 94, including $1,616.00 for price support loans to increase market returns above what farmers would receive on an unsupported m arket, $1,649.37 in price support pay ments and $45,542.22 in diversion paym ents under commodity programs, $4,467.00 in wheat marketing ce r t if icates, and $41,397.35 as the Government’s share of the cost of conserving local farmland resources under the Agri cultural Conservation Program.
Chairman Barksdale urged all qualified voters to be sure to cast their ballots. Eligibility to vote or hold office as a com mitteemah is not restricted by reason of race.
