owner of the sheep said that unless something was done, some of the dead sheep might be brought over and dumped in the Court House yard. But according to the dog warden, not one of those reported 48 missing sheep could have been used for this purpose; for when he saw them December 20 and 21, the buzzards had finished with them - apparently some time previously, and only bits of wool, bones, and hide could be found here and there. Never a piece of lambs' wool could be found anywhere. It looks as if the dogs swallowed, like taking a capsule, these 26 lambs. According to the supervisor, the owner stated that •they" tried in vain numerous timesi to reach the dog warden by; telephone. It seems that “the^T might have tried the mail service, since the mail travels between these two points twice daily - or might have contacted their supervisor earlier, since he had no trouble in reaching thedogwafden by telephone. By this time it was impossible for anyone to determine whether the sheep had been killed by dogs or bears--or how many had been killed. On the same day that this matter was presented to the Board, it was recommended and passed that $700 be paid for the loss of these 6heep with the admonition (and a wink from the supervisor of this district to the young overseer) that the next time the dog warden must be notified; and there went $700 of the dog tax fund. Fox Hunters Meet
A few members of the Northern Virginia Fox Hunters Association met Friday, July 28 at The Hill, the estate of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Durant 111 near Boston to run some of their young entries for the coming fall trials to be held at the Durant farm September 14, 15 and 16. According to a spokesman for the group, the outlook for the fall trials appears extremely good and a larger and better meet than last year is anticipated. All hound owners are invited to enter and run their hounds after real, wild red foxes in September.
