Scattered showers and thunder storms have predominated the local weather for several weeks and are forecast
to continue. Monday most I of the area received rain and in some areas of the county high winds and hail accompanied the rains and electrical disturbances.

Robert James Plum of Shenandoah was charged with reckless driving after striking an Angus cow on Route 211 a half mile east of Ben Venue Monday night, July 31. Trooper P. P. Dicks was investigating a report of cattle in the highway at that point when the crash occurred. The officer had set a flare and had his patrol car on the shoulder of the highway with the red lights flashing when Plum ran past both and struck the animal. The cow, owned by E. Luther Price of Luray, had to be destroyed. Trooper Dicks investigated a stolen vehicle report in Amissville Sunday morning. The 1956 Ford owned by Charles Stringfellow of Amiss, ville which was parked at Mountain View Restaurant was stolen between the hours of 2:30 and 5 a.m. Sunday morning. The vehicle was located on Route 29 in Prince William County at 5:30 a.m. and a suspect is being sought for questioning.
A single vehicle crash was investigated by Trooper R. M. Dodson on Route 522 in Woodville last Thursday. According to the officer, Mahlon Atkins of Sperryville skidded on the wet pavement and struck a bank. Damage to the car was estimated at $250. There were no charges. On Route 522 just south of Sperryville Saturday a car crashed into a fence. Robert Lee Turman of Sperryville op erating a 66 Ford, lost control of the vehicle, ran across the. highway and hit a fence. He was charged with reckless driving by Trooper Dodson
