Letters have gone out to all 4-H members concerning the annual 4-H picnic. The date has been set for August 23, 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Remember this is a recreational event and 4-H’ers, parents and friends are invited to attend. 4-H'ers interested should be sure to get their reservations back in to the office no later than August 15. Reminders again of the 4-H Sewing Classes being held at Amissville and Sperryville. Sessions have been underway1 for some time now but those interested may still attend. We have received several inquiries concerning the amount of Ascorbic Acid that should be added to peaches and certain other fruits to prevent browning when exposed to air. Generally, we think of using an anti-browning agent when freezing lightcolored fruits. This allows them to retain their natural color longer after thawed. The Ascorbic Acid comes in both crystalline and tablet form with the former being least expensive. In using this, add to each quart of chilled syrup. Be sure to check directions on your package though as strength may vary.

For those of you having Zucchini Squash and would like a new way to prepare it, I have come across a recipe which is real tasty. The squash taste is disguised so I think even those who don’t eat it will go for this dish. Zucchini Casserole
