Even though signs of autumn are prevalent in the Blue Ridge [Mountains of Shenandoah National Park, the annual color [transformation is only in the 'beginning stages, Superintenjdent R. Taylor Hoskins advised [today. Hoskins said that as of Monday morning only a very small percentage of color change had occurred and was confined for the most part to the Virginia creeper and dogwood, always among the first to herald the coming of fall on the slopes of Shenandoah mountains. The public will continue to be informed as to the status of fall color in Shenandoah during the remainder of this month and throughout October, traditionally the month of greatest change in this section of Virginia, according toHoskins.

To those interested in camping Hoskins advises that the Lewis Mountain Campground, the approach to which is at Mile 57.5 on Skyline Drive, has been closed to use for greaitly needed rehabilitation. This small campground probably will be out of service throughout next summer, according to Hoskins.
