New York - Because most Rappahannock County residents are earning more money currently, than they did a few years ago, a la rger proportion of them are now to he found in the middle or upper income brackets. The upward move has been noted all along the line, with the result that the median point on the income scale, locally, is several notches higher than it was then. The changes are recorded in a copyrighted study, released by 5a les M a ri a g e rn tnt. It shows, for localities throughout the country, just how their populations are divided in terms of income hr n kets. The object ol the breakdown was to get a better understanding of the f in a rn. ia 1 strut - ture of each community by taking a closer look at what is called its “average income.’ Does it represent income that is shared somewhat evenly by a large part of the population or does it stand for a few families with very big incomes making up fora larger number with low incomes? Average income rose, in Rappahannock County, from $4,183 per household'in 1963 to $4,969 in the- past year, a gain of 18.8 percent, it is shown.
