Rappahannock County farms produced more in the past year for their operators, in terms of gross income, than did farms in many sections of the country. Their yield, in proportion to the local farm population, was better than average, on the basis of a survey that included farm and ranch operations throughout the United States. The accomplishments of the year, such as they were, were hard to come by. They were achieved, chiefly, by more intensive cultivation and by more effective use of farm machinery. In addition, there was an increase in government payments and an improvement in the prices obtained for livestock and crops during most of the year.
