Electric power lines snapped from their thick coating of ice and the numerous tree limbs which fell on them. Linemen worked all day and most of the night and electricity was restored to Washington about 10:30 Wednesday morning.
Television antennas fared badly in the winds and fireplaces were the latest means of cooking. County office buildings were closed Wednesday morning for lack of heat, as well as many business establishments.
Snow ranged from a couple of inches at Washington to a foot on either mountain. The Front Royal mountain did not become impassable nor was there any bad traffic tie-up. The Panorama Mountain section was hazardous and a number of vehicles became stranded, and rescued. Hie mountainsides were a white lacy wonderland as the damp snow clung to every branch and twig, and the trees bowed and nodded together overhead.
