activity is finger painting. Finger prints can be made from liquid or cooked starch with food coloring added. Be sure to cover the floor or table with newspapers so that the mess will not bother you, or do as one mother did and set the material up on the outdoor picnic table. One of Daddy’s old shirts makes a good coverall for the child. Shelving paper or any glazed paper is satisfactory for this use. (I used freezer paper). Recipe follows.
Play Dough
2 cups flour
1 cup salt
Water
2 tablespoons olive oil
food coloring
Add water slowly to make a pliable mixture. Knead above ingredients and place in plastic bag. This dough, together with materials such as assorted cookie cutters for making a variety of shapes and with buttons for decorating features is a fascinating play material.
