Chief Forest Warden Raymond Johnson of Rappahannock County ask that hunters be very careful with all types of fire while enjoying the forest this year. While a large number of hunters understand the potential destructiveness of a forest fire there are always some who start fires through carelessness. During 1967 over 80 forest fires were started in Virginia by hunters.
there but had to leave to take Peyton to a meeting. It was good to see their familiar faces and to be this near home after three weeks away.
I hope those who have read the articles and who have really traveled extensively have not been too bored. I also hope they will realize that these three weeks have given me so much pleasure that when I was asked to write the articles I felt that someone whose working life had prevented them from traveling might get an incentive to enjoy similar trips when their retirement comes.
I want to acknowledge that this pleasurable trip was due largely to relatives and friends. Dr. Snead and Betty Coates pushed me all the summer. Betty did everything possible to see that the tour to Hawaii didn’t leave without me. I do appreciate her assistance. Lois Snead gave her aid when she loaned me a book and told me of the El Cortez Hotel. My neighbors and friends gave me joy with their mail waiting for me in different ports. I thrilled to the calls the night before 1 left. I knew also that anything that needed attention at home would have the proper attention.
I had a wonderful trip as you have seen by these articles but I was delighted to get back to these people and our beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. There is no place I’d rather live than in Rappahannock.
