We passed many places of interest on the outskirts of Los Angeles, and into the city. We drove to Malibu Beach Colony, Will Rogers Beach and Santa Monica. Here we left the beautiful ocean for the Santa Monica Freeway and then the San Diego Freeway. We went onto Sunset Blvd., where the University of California and UCLA were pointed out to us.
Also the late Jean Harlow’s home now owned by the family named Kitchens and the late Jane Mansfield home were pointed out for us. Then we went to Beverly Hills where we saw the Beverly Hills Hotel, Schwabs Old Pharmacy. Then we went on Sunset Strip passing Playboy Club, Dino’s Lodge, Continental High House at one time belonging to Gene Autry, Screen Actor’s Guild, Preview House. Then on we went to Hollywood and the Roosevelt Hotel where we said goodby to some of our group. We went to Hollywood and Vine, turned right on Hollywood and Vine where on our left was Capitol Records building. We passed right by the Paladium where a huge sign hung with a big picture of Lawrence Welk moving his baton up and down. Then on to Hollywood Freeway we went. The Parlor Tour of 5 days ended at the Biltmore Hotel. Here all of us said goodby and had to battle our way to our own hotels.
I was the only one going to the International Hotel, so I had to fide a half hour longer on a coach driven by the rudest man I ever heard. He was so rude to a lady who had gone too far from her place of stopping. I thought how different from the driVets with whom I had contact, and thus I was especially glad not to be staying long in Los Angeles. I spent the night at the International Hotel.
