Harry Mattera, Chief, Enforcement Branch of the Mid-Atlantic Internal Revenue Service Region said today that the Gun Control Act of 1968 signed by the President on October 22, 1968 does not apply to firearms used for hunting, target shooting or any other lawful purpose. The Internal Revenue Service is receiving many inquiries from sportsmen as to whether the law applied to firearms they own.
