If he delays filing his application until one of the three months after the month in which he becomes 65, there is even a longer period of time in which he will have no protection under the medical insurance provisions.
If he waits more than three months after the month in which he reaches 65, he cannot sign up for medical insurance until the first three months of the following year and then there will not only be an additional period of no protection, but he may have to pay a higher premium rate.
