Social Security
“Your surgeon’s bill for the month of June is not covered by the provisions of Medicare’s Medical Insurance because you did not sign up for this protection on time.”
Hazel F. Daly, District Manager of the Winchester Social Security Office, advised that she does not like to make such a statement to any claimant, but unfortunately there are still some persons who do not sign up for Medical Insurance protection on time.
When a person is approaching 65, he should contact his social security office in the three months before the month in which he reaches age 65, and file application for Medical Insurance protection so that the protection will start with the month he reaches 65.
If he waits to file application until the month he becomes 65. the medical insurance protection does not start until the following month.
