Rappahannock Panthers ended the first half of the 1968-69 season with an impressive 65-56 win over the Elkton Elks Friday nighf. Tuesday night the Panthers were topped 71-59 bv the Central High School Falcons at Woodstock.
Leading the Panther attack is senior forward Bobhv Settle. Settle is second in the District in scoring with 205 points in 10 games for a 20.5 average. He is second only to Central’s big Lloyd Spinner who has 214 points and a 21.4 per game mark.
These two leaders met face to face Tuesday at Central as the Panthers met their sixth defeat of the season. The game saw Spinner toss in 29 points while Settle managed 21.
The Falcons jumped off to a quick lead and. with three and a half minutes remaining in the second quarter, seemed to have the game in command, pulling to a 29-16 lead. Suddenly the Panthers, led by Charlie Dodson and Settle, brought Rappahannock fans to their feet as they reeled off 13 straight points and at half time had nulled to a 3131 deadlock: The Panthers kept the pace going as the second half started and at one stretch had outscored Central 28-8. Late in the fourth period the Falcons began a torrid full court press which led to Rappahannock’s downfall. Spinner collected 18 of his 29 points in the second hatf, ten in the final 5 minutes.
